Simply amazing. What wouldn´t I give to have this moments Guille has. To go to the music store and buy the latest magazine, cassette, 45 or 33 rpms, cd or dvd that just came out with the new stuff!!! Pay for it as fast as I can and run to the car to play it right away, and wait for that exact second in that exact minute of that track in wich you feel that THEY´VE DONE IT AGAIN !!!. It´s as simple as that. To tell you the truth, The Beatles don`t really do it for me, I like them very much, but that´s it. I guess I´m still waiting for Vanilla Ice to shake world once again. Congratulations Guille, I know this "new old feeling" is one of the things that keep you alive
Thank you, Juan...I know you understand, enjoy, and celebrate the quirks and nuances of your YankeeTio. You captured the moment right, because that's exactly what I did. What you missed though, is that I bought several copies and I have been playing them over and over, to the point that 40 y.o. songs are now almost permanently erased in my mental hard drive and overwritten with these 'new ones'. I don't know if my fanatism is at Nati's level with Mr. Sanz, but it's right up there. How did you manage to put the Beatles and *unmentionable* in the same sentence? Do you know how disrupting that is to us, sensible people with admire fine art? Also...I knew something went wrong with you when you had that high fever when you were little, some connections in your brain got mixed up, that's why you don't idolize them as any normal person would. It's not your fault. There are support groups all over the world to help you fix that condition. There's a chance. Don't worry, I'll make sure Juan Segundo is raised RIGHT. I already got him a copy of Love. All is good. Life is good. Beatles are better. Love DadGuille
ALEX! YOur post in your blog was so good, that I had to copy it hear so that it gets to those that read this blog but don't have access to yours yet. What can I say...your post is music to my ears!! Regarding the Top 5, I nearly agree with you 100%, but I have one more (Carla agrees with me...): the mash-up of Drive my car/Taxman/The Word. Brilliant. A whole new terrific song on its own. And since 1967, when it first came out, I never thought I'd go through the whole 'For the benefit of Mr Kite' as I do now, waiting for the orgasmic transition to I Want You. Last, but not least, I love the combination of Within you+Tomorrow never knows. A whole new flavor. I never TOLERATED Within you, and absolutely LOVED Tomorrow never knows. This combo is, again, a brand new song altogether. Did you know that I want to hold your hand is actually two songs: a studio version AND the live version. You can tell in the surround sound dvd, the studio version plays in the front speakers, the live version in the back. Anyway..I could write forever. I loved your post. DAD
Here it is (am I violating copyright laws?? hope not!)
To say that this "new" Beatles album is pure genius is to give it too little credit.
My mother was a Beatles fan (though more a I Want to Hold Your Hand kind of Beatles fan - not so much a Revolution Beatles fan) and I grew up with the Fab Four in the background. I never had an opportunity to "discover" them or to truly listen to an album for the first time.
This album allowed me to do just that. With each track, it was as though I were hearing this brilliant band for the first time, reveling in the intricate musical backflips that Sir George Martin put the catalog through.
And even beyond the mystifying mash-ups, the group has never sounded better thanks to remastered tracks and a more up front and honest rhythm section, allowing you to hear things like the brilliant bass line that had been buried in Hey Jude.
I was asked yesterday by NB to name my favorite track off the album and couldn't...it would be more accurate, I said, to name favorite moments. So, with that, here are my top 5 favorite moments, in no particular order:
1. The aforementioned bass line in Hey Jude that couldn't be heard until now. 2. The strings from Good Night to introduce Octopuses' Garden 3. Moving from Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite into She's So Heavy (With Helter Skelter in the background) 4. The transition from Hey Jude into Sgt. Peppers 5. George Martin's new string accompaniment to While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
Fans of music in general and fans of the Beatles in particular need to do themselves the favor of adding this to their music collection as quickly as possible. You won't regret it.
