If Russ and Carla Reproduced

If Russell and I have a gay son, he'll probably look like this.

Nina News: Ochoversary!

There really isn't much, I just wanted to put something...

She can walk next to furniture, she can stand with one hand, and we thought she showed signs last night of standing up without any support, but by the time I got the camera, she wanted nothing to do with it:

Otherwise, she can be seen these days enjoying high-fives, talking a lot of junk (mostly "da-da"), using her tongue to mess with her new teeth, and clapping.

Life is good for la Nina.

Unfortunately, our picture-taking skills and timing suck. Something to work on...

Breakthrough!!

La Mitad del Mundo!

So, I'm in Ecuador! I am evidence of your tax dollars at work, fighting Colombia armed guerillas and keeping drugs off the streets. I just wanted to share some photos of the crazy things I have done this past week. I could write a novel, but I will let the pictures speak for themselves and save my war stories for when i get home... but here is a brief summary of my trip (so far):

Picture 1- I've stopped halfway on the bridge that separates Ecuador and Colombia, in the jungle. I'm the one with binoculars, looking at the FARC who are looking right back at me.

Picture 2- I've crossed that bridge and am now on the Colombian side, walking alongside the Deputy Director of the Anti-narcotic police in Ecuador. See me? I'm the only woman in the picture. The two gentlemen in front of me are the two commanders of the units protecting the border. THe guy on the right is Ecuadorian. The guy on the right, Colombian. It's the first time EVER that Colombia has allowed Ecuadorian security forces to cross the border (with arms). Ever.

picture 3- see the guys in the trees? FARC. At least 10 men. I'm taking that picture from a canoe as we sailed down the river. Yes, the same river that flowed beneath the bridge that we crossed above. So, as soon as i took that picture, i turned around to the driver of the boat and asked him to go back. We did..

Picture 4- On the equator! See that red line between my legs. The equator is only 15 centimeters, btw AND you weigh 2 lbs less. The center of gravity is so strong, you can balance an egg on the head of a nail. I did it, and got a certificate..

Picture 5- i'm at 14,000 ft, on top of a volcano overlooking Quito. There was such little oxygen in the air, you ran out of breath walking slowly. I was practically in heaven, touching the clouds. The city below looked so surreal, it was like a Sim City layout...

These pictures are only the beginning. I wanted to post the pictures i took today from inside the Guayaquil Max. Security Prison, the worst/largest prison in Latin America, but i haven't downloaded them yet. Plus, i didn't want to give you all nightmares. I think i have taken 4 showers already today to wash off the stink.

So much fun!

Second, HAPPY BIRTHDAY JULIAN!!, by watching the video I can asure that he´s got a VERY promising future in soccer. Ofense is his thing. There´s not way you can guess were his legs will go to...

Third, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEX!!! Dude, there´s no way I would say you are (or look) 30 years old, but those walking machines just added you a few years...!!! Next time I´ll race you...

NOW, I HAVE A NEWS FLASH!!!... Global warming turned out to be true!!!!!! Want a proof ??? OK, I thought it would be nice to post a couple pics of our "Family gathering point" aka as "La Quinta" covered in snow. Yeah, it´s been 89 years since the last time it snowed down here. Preety amazing.

Carla Bozzola Getting Her Diploma!

Somehow I managed to zoom in on Carla getting her diploma. Sadly, it was mispelled. Oh well! It is a great thing to get it at all. She's the one who comes up to the table in the middle of the frame and then at the end of the video is getting the diploma from the dean. Notice she's standing there for quite a while. It seems they were discussing her mispelling. You see? She's going to do great in the real world.

Congratulations Carla!

Carla is done with college! Amazing. This means that the rest of us are really old.

For those that could not be in attendance, here are some pictures of the day. Carla looked GREAT and totally like a graduate--mostly because of the outfit, but also because she has a new walk now, which just screams "knowledge" and "experience".

We're all really proud of you, Carlo Bozzolo!

At the ceremony:
We sat in the seats closest to the sun...and to God. Props to Wil for having eyes like a hawk and spotting Carla among the 7,000 graduates. Wow.

After the ceremony:

I'll put the rest of my photos up on my Flickr account.

The Beatles

If anything were to justify a break in baby-related posts, it would be this great Washington Post editorial about The Beatles.

Great quote:
A hundred years from now, musicologists say, Beatles songs will be so well known that every child will learn them as nursery rhymes, and most people won't know who wrote them. They will have become sufficiently entrenched in popular culture that it will seem as if they've always existed, like "Oh! Susanna," "This Land Is Your Land" and "Frère Jacques."
The only part I disagree with is the claim that no one will know who wrote these great songs.

On the Road to Success

I just want to say, on behalf of those who just heard about this, that we're very proud of Carla for her recent internship offer. Awesome job!

If you haven't heard yet, Carla was just offered an internship with one of the largest behavioral and social science research organizations in the world! WOW! I'm not putting the name of the organization here because I don't know how official things are yet; however, I'm sure Carla will be providing details soon. Let me just say that the organization is well known and important.

Besides acquiring extremely valuable research experience (while getting paid!) to help expand choices for graduate school and find a nice job, we know that Carla will use this opportunity to achieve the following:

1) A network of drooling admirers who will undoubtedly catapult her to eternal and, probably, cosmic success.

2) A cubicle (or other designated space with 5 ft. walls, a desk, and many pens).

3) God's respect. Carla, if thy effort doth please him, he shall reward thee with great pleasures of mind, imagination, courage, and paycheck.

and, finally,

4) A chance to make an impact on the World of Men.

Not bad, Carla. Not bad at all.
