As for Rolo, I wouldn't worry about getting him anything for 3 reasons:

1) He doesn't know what he wants, and I don't know what he wants either.
2) I don't want to have to take it back with me on the plane.
3) He doesn't really have any money and probably isn't planning on getting each person in our family something.

So, with that information, you can make your decision, but don't ask me what to get him because i still have to get him a birthday present AND a christmas present and i'm drawing blanks.

Ladies & Gentlemen,

As you know, Rolo will not be with us this Christmas and, as it seems to happen every year, his birthday happens to coincide with Christmas. My question for you all: should we all pitch in and send him a Family Present or should we go for assorted smaller things? I'd vote for pooling resources, but I don't feel strongly about either choice, so you decide!

I vote for pitching in for one present.

Agreed. I have no idea what he wants. He may enjoy a soccer DVD from Eurosport, but what do I know?

There's a specific soccer ball that he wants that they have in eurosport, but that's all i can come up with. He's planning a trip to Germany for next summer, so maybe some stuff related to that? But anything that you decide please make it so that I don't have to transport it back with me on the plane because i barely had enough room for my stuff to bring here, so taking presents back is going to be difficult already.

He may not need this if travelling with parents, but we could get him a cheap Europass to make excursions while in Germany. Maybe he wants to do some travels on his own.

The Eurail Germany - Benelux Youth Pass offers 2nd-class rail travel within Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg for 5, 6, 8, or 10 days within 2 months (for those who are under 26 years old on the first day of validity of their Pass). It costs only $200 for 5 days.

He's going with i think 4 friends, 1 of them already living in germany... if that helps. He's going because of the world cup... maybe that helps spark some ideas
