I'm sure that general interest is not the problem. Instead, the challenges will most certainly be a) fares and b) prior commitments. Let me address both of these issues:
a) Fares:
They're not bad! They're similar to what they were for the wedding ($500-$800). As usual, the trick is finding fares for dates we want, especially since the best fares are date restricted. It seems that the best fares over Christmas and/or New Year are through Despegar.com with TAM and Copa Airlines from New York, but other options are out there.
b) Possible dates:
For those of you who are serious about this, my guess is that we should aim for either Christmas or New Year's Eve, or both. I know Carl and Julia are having family in Philadelphia for Christmas and that some family may be visiting Guille and Nora around Christmas (exact dates?), but I'm not sure how that would affect their ability to go for one or both of the holidays. Thoughts?
As far as I'm concerned, this is just exploratory, so don't feel bad about counting yourself out from the start. I think we need to pin down the date question first. I think the fares situation is similar for both Christmas and New Year's Eve. Let me hear from you all if you're interested in further exploration.

P.s. Is this flag image I found on the Net the worst flag image ever made?

I am all for a family get-together, but the thought of nothingness for the only month during which I will be promised SOME peace from work and school is also very inviting. I will have to think about this some more, and quite honestly, the deciding factor for me may not be so much the cost or dates, but the sheer size of this event. I would be very interested in some casual family hangout time, and not so interested in family + friends argentine beach extravaganza. No offense, non-Bozzolo bloggers. But sometimes low key is the way to be---especially this year which has made me generally very tired....or maybe it's just today.
My other thought at this moment is that, given recent happenings, I would like my next trip down to be, again, for family.
Again, i'll keep considering...besides hand cramps from typing, who knows what tomorrow will bring?

Nice idea Nan...Let's see how the crowds respond to this! Let it be known: weather in december there is a good reflection of how the surface of the sun feels when it reaches supernova status. Like 85. Too much for the Guish.
Last time I drew the argentine flag it had a sun in the center, this one looks more like a supernova (see above).

Rest is good, and I hear you (JB) on the importance of that time of the year, limited ability to make these trips, family considerations, etc. Unfairly, I have the advantage of knowing that I'm going to be there either way, so it's easy for me to take the next step to see if anyone else is interested.
Perhaps any further commenting on my end is unnecessary, but I just want to be sure that it's clear that I hadn't meant to imply that there should be or would be "planned" activities, excursions, or other events--family or family + friends or otherwise. As was evident this past summer, the main draw in my mind is simply having good people in the same general vicinity for casual get-togethers in a place that has lots of good beef, great relatives, and warm weather. Perhaps for some the heat is a disincentive (e.g. Guish). Also, I know there is a Rodriguez visit to the States being planned, which would seriously put mom and dad's ability in risk.
Any other thoughts? If not, I'll put this to bed early, just like I did with my not-so-brilliant idea to become an airline pilot.
First of all I want to second Nan in this because we both came up with the idea.
JB and Nan, both, have a point. But I must say that the idea of peace and nothingness is quite tempting. (JB:U GOT KONGBALLS)
Speaking for myself, this Xmas and New year´s will be two very emotive moments (not for religious matters as you can imagine) in which I couldn´t ask for more if we all could find a way to be together because, no matter how much time we´ve spent together this year, given the recent happenings, it seems that I can´t get enough of that.
On the other hand, Xime and I have great chances of visiting DC and Columbus next april so, one way or the other, we are covered.
I know Koke & Marce are thinking about visiting you guys next year and Santi and Ceci still have their 2004 trip pending.
So again, ONE WAY OR THE OTHER chances are that we´ll end up “casually hanging out” here or there.
I didn´t exactly clear the situation, did I?
Nan, i think it's a great idea. There is nothing this family probably needs more than a little TLC (that's tender-lovin-care). The year 2005 has been a bit more tolling on mi corazon than previous years, so it would be awesome to finish it off and start 2006 with family and loved ones. I've discussed a trip to Argentina, but wasn't planning it until January. So, New year's seems to be my vote.
Plus, I think I need to be as close to the sun as possible. This cold weather (it's like 50 degrees today) is really beating me up. I've never been so pale, I feel like jb.
Vamos a Mar del Plata!

I'm here mostly as a peanut gallery; serious readers and planners, feel free to skip ahead.
> ... Any other thoughts? If not, I'll put this to bed early, just like I did with my not-so-brilliant idea to become an airline pilot. ...
"Not so brilliant"? Nan, are you KIDDING me? If you were an airline pilot, we wouldn't even be having this discussion, because we'd all have free tickets to the motherland* anytime we wanted! Let's hear some better home spirit from The Birthplace of Aviation!
As for the date question (skipping conveniently over the "if" and "who" questions, you'll notice), my crucial vote has to come down with Nati** on this one, since I know we'll be homebound any earlier than about Jan. 1. In spite of the deep happiness it gives me even to think about reuniting with all of you down there, however, I doubt very much that our next trip will be in the next 14 months (although we actually are aiming for February 2007).
* adopted, in my case.
** btw, nb: heb!
